Installation

pnpm dlx shadcn@latest add @magicui/avatar-circles

Requires @magicui in the registries of your components.json (shadcn adds official directory namespaces automatically).

Usage

usage.tsx
import { AvatarCircles } from "@/components/ui/avatar-circles"<AvatarCircles  avatarUrls={[    { imageUrl: "/avatars/alex.jpg", profileUrl: "/profiles/alex" },    { imageUrl: "/avatars/sam.jpg", profileUrl: "/profiles/sam" },    { imageUrl: "/avatars/jordan.jpg", profileUrl: "/profiles/jordan" },  ]}  numPeople={12}/>
  • Show members, contributors, followers, or participants in a compact space.
  • Link each displayed avatar to its corresponding profile page.
  • Use the optional count badge to indicate additional people beyond the visible avatars.
  • Place in dashboards, team cards, social proof sections, or collaboration interfaces.

Examples

Project team

Displays linked team-member avatars with a total participant count.

project-team.tsx
import { AvatarCircles } from "@/components/ui/avatar-circles"<AvatarCircles  className="mt-4"  avatarUrls={[    { imageUrl: "/team/maya.jpg", profileUrl: "/team/maya" },    { imageUrl: "/team/liam.jpg", profileUrl: "/team/liam" },    { imageUrl: "/team/noah.jpg", profileUrl: "/team/noah" },  ]}  numPeople={18}/>

Followers without count

Shows a short list of profile-linked avatars without an additional-person badge.

followers-without-count.tsx
import { AvatarCircles } from "@/components/ui/avatar-circles"<AvatarCircles  avatarUrls={[    { imageUrl: "/users/ava.png", profileUrl: "https://example.com/ava" },    { imageUrl: "/users/oliver.png", profileUrl: "https://example.com/oliver" },  ]}/>

API reference

PropTypeDefaultDescription
avatarUrlsAvatar[]—Required array of avatar objects. Each object must contain an imageUrl string for the image source and a profileUrl string for the linked profile destination.
numPeoplenumber | undefined—Optional number rendered as a +count circular badge. The badge is rendered only when the value is greater than 0; omitted and nullish values behave as 0.
classNamestring | undefined—Optional additional class names merged onto the root container with cn().

Accessibility

  • Each avatar image receives an alt value in the form “Avatar 1”, “Avatar 2”, and so on.
  • Each avatar is wrapped in a link that opens its profile URL in a new tab with rel="noopener noreferrer".
  • The count badge is also an anchor, but its source uses an empty href and does not provide an explicit aria-label.
  • Provide meaningful image URLs and ensure the surrounding page context makes the generic generated avatar labels understandable.
