Encrypted Text
EncryptedText progressively reveals a string character by character after it enters the viewport, while unrevealed characters continuously display randomized symbols. It preserves spaces and supports separate styling for encrypted and revealed characters.

shadcn add · no workarounds · theme neutral (none shipped)Installation
Requires @aceternity in the registries of your components.json (shadcn adds official directory namespaces automatically).
Usage
import { EncryptedText } from "@/components/ui/encrypted-text";<EncryptedText text="Access granted" />- For hero headlines, section headings, or supporting copy that should reveal as the user scrolls.
- For futuristic, security-themed, developer-focused, or terminal-inspired interfaces.
- For emphasizing a short CTA label or status message without adding a separate layout element.
- When a one-time viewport-triggered reveal is preferable to an always-running text animation.
Examples
Hero heading with custom styling
Reveals a headline once it enters the viewport and applies different styles before and after each character resolves.
import { EncryptedText } from "@/components/ui/encrypted-text";<EncryptedText text="Build the future" className="text-4xl font-bold tracking-tight" encryptedClassName="text-emerald-500/70" revealedClassName="text-white"/>Security status message
Uses a slower reveal and a custom hexadecimal character set for a security-oriented interface.
import { EncryptedText } from "@/components/ui/encrypted-text";<EncryptedText text="SYSTEM SECURE" charset="0123456789ABCDEF" revealDelayMs={80} flipDelayMs={40} className="font-mono text-sm" encryptedClassName="text-cyan-400" revealedClassName="text-emerald-400"/>Call to action label
Applies the effect to a short action-oriented phrase while preserving the surrounding button markup.
import { EncryptedText } from "@/components/ui/encrypted-text";<button className="rounded-md bg-primary px-4 py-2 text-primary-foreground"> <EncryptedText text="Explore now" revealDelayMs={35} encryptedClassName="opacity-70" revealedClassName="font-semibold" /></button>Custom character set
Restricts the scrambling effect to a small set of characters for a restrained visual treatment.
import { EncryptedText } from "@/components/ui/encrypted-text";<EncryptedText text="Initializing..." charset="01" revealDelayMs={60} flipDelayMs={100} className="font-mono text-lg"/>API reference
Accessibility
- The outer element exposes the complete original string through aria-label, so assistive technologies do not need to interpret the scrambling sequence.
- The outer element uses role="text" to present the animated string as a text unit.
- Spaces are preserved during the scrambling effect.
- The visual effect is triggered once when the component enters the viewport; no reduced-motion handling is implemented in the source.
- An empty text value renders no element at all.
